I am so excited to announce the arrival of our newest purse line! We feel so lucky to now carry Crystalyn Kae Accessories, a wonderful line of handbags out of Seattle. We love local products– you know that, but what we love even more is smart and sexy local products. So here we go!

Her Pleated Clutch

I recently had the opportunity to meet Crystalyn during the Seattle Gift Show. As I walked into her booth she said hello, quickly read my name tag, and exclaimed “I was just visiting Olympia and I went shopping at Compass Rose, I love your store!” Well, I was just as excited to be meeting her.  I have seen her work during my time in the Northwest, and I have always admired it from afar. Did somebody say match made in Heaven? We got to talking and she told me about her lovely purses.

Meet Crystalyn!

When it comes down to it, I love the feel of them. Most are made of out of a durable (and washable!) glazed fabric that is water resistant and vegan!   One of my first questions looking over the line was “how do they age?” Well, it seemed this was a question that she had been asked often. Crystalyn looked up across the isle to another local artist who immediately knew why she was being called upon. The woman walked right over with her bag to show me what a bag that was just about a year old looked like. Well, I thought it looked great, but the first thing out of Crystalyn’s mouth was “you need to wash that!” This made me laugh, but led me to asking about how they wash up. No need to fear, you can throw any of her glazed fabric bags in the washing machine! I was pretty amazed when I heard this. Need to bring some life back into your bag? Use a little bit of clear shoe polish and you will be able to see the color and shine come back into the fabric.

Pleaty Pleaty please?

I usually get excited about new lines we bring into the store, but I am really super excited about this line. She was kind enough to speed up the shipping process so that I could have the one I picked out for myself before Alana and I head off to New York for the gift show. What a doll!

They are here now, so come play dress up with us. I promise you won’t be let down!

Like you don’t know already… It has been wild here in Olympia. We were out of power here at the store for part of one day, and everyone who works here lost power at one point or another. We hope that everyone is safe and warm. If you need a little warm up you can always stop by at the store and share your storm stories!

 Also, sorry for the blog silence lately. I was lucky enough to find myself in Whistler for four days of Snowboarding following the Seattle gift show! So, baiscally, rather than being able to sit in my office talking to you lovely people I have been buying new things for the store (sneak peaks can be found here…  and here) and snowboarding. Life is rough.

Yay for customers sharing photos! Kim sent me a few images of the fun that was had with Letter pressed cookie cutters. Her and her sons made a fabulous looking birthday card for her mother. The result was original and delicious.

Letter pressed was hands down my favorite kitchen gift item made by Fred this past year. You might recognize the company name, they make the matroschka measuring cups, and all the fun ice cube molds that we carry in the store. The smart little design team at Fred, based out of Rhode Island, is constantly outdoing themselves in the gift department. Their products have really helped us bring in useful kitchen and home items that have just a little something different about them. Call it funny, useful, or strange, I call it great!

The letter pressed cookie cutters bring the foodie world to all those wordsmiths out there. And as you can see from Kim’s photos, they can open up a world of personalization for desert time! Check them out.

I’m so happy/sad to announce that Emma is moving on from Compass Rose! We have been so grateful for all of her hard work and her company during her time here at the store. She has been so much fun to have around and we will miss her dearly. Emma has the wonderful opportunity to start work at an area pet hospital and we could not be more excited. Science and animals has always been her passion.

Lucky for us Emma will be staying in town, so we will still get to see her. Lucky for you she will be filling in here at the store on occasion! Don’t forget to congratulate her next time you see her!
